Installation & Awards Gala 2024

On September 28th, the Black Women Lawyers, Inc. hosted our 49th Annual Installation and Awards Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. The evening was inspirational and elegant, bringing together legal professionals, bar association leaders, esteemed community leaders, and supporters to celebrate the accomplishments of the outgoing board and welcome the incoming board. This year, BWL will be led by its 50th President, Shardé Skahan. The theme for this year is “Architects Of Progress: Shaping The Future And Honoring Our Legacy Through Service And Leadership”.

President Skahan delivered a message of perspective to attendees, reiterating the importance of supporting young people on the path to becoming a lawyer and encouraging attendees to commit this year to leading the way for future lawyers and serving the community.

We also heard speeches from four inspiring honorees. BWL honored Hon. Leondra Kruger, whose legal acumen led to her appointment as the second Black woman named to the California Supreme Court. Terrance Evans, a former BWL scholarship recipient who now serves as a practice group leader in a large law firm, received the Diversity Champion Award. BWL honored Jackie Norvell (i.e. The Brown Bag Lady) with the Social Impact award for her dedication to the unhoused community in Los Angeles. Finally, Endi Piper, the Corporate Excellence Award winner, was recognized for her expertise, which has allowed her to ascend the ranks in the corporate world, now serving as General Counsel of The SpringHill Company.

The event is always full of excitement and positivity, and this year was no different. We enjoyed celebrating with the Los Angeles community.
